Background

When I was 25 and working as a Bartender, my father offered to make me a partner in his cabinet shop if I moved back to the area.  I took him up on his offer and we worked together for many years.  I moved the business more towards on-site finish carpentry in the Napa Valley and graduated to project management roles on very large high end homes.

Much of my experience has come from field experience rather than a formal education.  I often feel blessed that I have been paid to learn.   I find many skills can translate from one trade to another.

I was working as a Project Manager on a crazy house outside Napa and not doing well physically because of the stress.  My wife suggested that we make a radical change, I agreed, quit my job and worked on a fixer bungalow while we lived off her income teaching at our local community college.  I spent two years fixing up the house, including adding two bedrooms and a bath in the attic space. you can see photos here:Bungalow

We lived in such a small town that the house made the paper when it sold.

I'm experienced with all phases of construction and typically do all the work myself.  For larger jobs it often makes sense to subcontract certain portions, for small jobs I prefer to do the work myself.

While I am comfortable and experienced with most building trades, my skills as a cabinetmaker and trim carpenter are what I enjoy and feel are my biggest strengths.  The kitchen to the left I designed, built, finished, and installed in my early 30's.  In this house (Williams) I did most of the trim, and all the cabinets in the craftsman style
